Sheffield: The White Building
Look up above the shop fronts
in Fitzalan Square in the centre of Sheffield, and the most sensational wall
sculptures appear worked into the façade of 1908-built The White
Building. The faience façade boasts 10 figures by Alfred and William
Tory, depicting Sheffield trades.

Sheffield's magnificent Cutlers'
Hall opposite the city's cathedral boasts superb chandeliers, brought from RMS
Olympic, sister ship to the Titanic; contemporary elephant door handles
(elephants feature on cutlers' halls in Sheffield and London to denote the
ivory traditionally used for knife handles; a glorious silver relief plate
depicting the façade of the hall itself and the extraordinary Norfolk
Knife with its mother of pearl carving.
